I am often amazed that so many people do not realize the power of their words. And not just the potential they have to hurt or encourage others, but the actual effect they have on us personally when we speak them.
I was thinking about this while driving and I will admit I was getting really irritated with all of the seemingly bad drivers ( not me of course)…just everyone else, and I muttered,“dog gone it, what a jerk, Really! Really, you just did that!! I’m sure I am speaking for myself when I share that I say things in the privacy of my car that I wouldn’t say around others who are within hearing distance. But I had a thought in the middle of my tirade, “If I believe that words have the power to build up or tear down an individual, than wouldn’t it be true that when I say things like that, out loud or mentally, they would have to affect me on a subconscious level? I mean it? I wonder if subconsciously if my brain hears those word’s and processes them as a belief that I have about myself. Well, that wouldn’t be good for my self esteem, would it? Time to change my words while driving to something more like, “You beautiful woman who is an amazing driver.”
As a reader I love a great book that inspires, entertains or teaches me. And I am aware of the potential power in the words I speak to others. Here are a couple of verses I wrote while thinking about the power of words.
IF ONLY YOU TRY~
You can’t because they said you couldn’t,
You won’t because they told you wouldn’t,
Then one day someone said you might,
Wouldn’t hurt to give it a try,
And like a key that sets the prisoner free,
The years of lies fell away like chains in the night,
Your shackles were made of fire wrapped words,
They held you down, and kept you in your place,
Until someone whispered, “You were meant to fly”
Believing it to be true, those shackles fell away too,
Unfettered you flew,
Above all who spoke lies that they believed to be true.

And loves many days, that he may see good?
