For the Love of Books And New to Me Authors

I recently moved to a new town and the library is literally a block away {interject big happy smile}. So you can imagine I have been squeezing in as much library time as I can. I don’t just run in and right back out, I wonder aimlessly from cover to cover, shelf to shelf. It has been such a long time since I have been able to do that, I mean we are talking long as in years{interject sad  face}.

I used to make it a point that once a month I would choose authors I have never read before and preferably had not ever heard of before I found  their book on the library shelf. Have you ever done that, and discovered a new favorite?

Sometimes I would find unforgettable books and authors by doing this. When I was 18 I discovered Margaret Mitchell, 19 James Michener, Rosemunde Pilcher in my thirties and many many others.

But it has been a long time since I took a chance on an unknown or had the time to even look around. Until two weeks ago while at my new library, and I found myself pulling new to me books off the shelf and I could feel the excitement of a new discovery growing until I had to stop myself.

Exciting, right?

Here are the three books I chose and they all three are  winners!! That is the best part, I don’t have to return a half finished book that was a bit of a disappointment.

Chinese Cooking for Diamond Thieves by Dave Lowry (New Shelf)

I cannot say I was drawn in by anything other than the idea of reading about Chinese Cooking at first.

Have you ever read “The Last Chinese Chef”?

This was a great mind vacation book. It took me to a place I would not have ever thought about reading or being interested in before.

I loved the genre mix he used and like a good recipe with the right ingredients you can create something you would not otherwise try on its own.

For me it is coconut if it is not mixed with chocolate and almonds ie..almond joy…I am not going to eat it.

I wouldn’t normally read about martial arts but there was just enough of it in the story to make it work with the rest of the ingredients that consisted of mystery, suspense, and a pinch of romance.

Mr. Lowry put it all together and created a very good story dish.

This is a pretty quick read ( I am a terribly slow reader) with only 278 pages. A fun to read book.

The Secret Life of CeeCee Wilkes by Diane Chamberlain

I am only half way through this amazing book. The pace is spot on and the plot is intriguing.

Down River by John Hart

When I pick this book up I read longer than I intended and have to force myself to put it aside. I have only read the first three chapters but really look forward to being able to spend more time reading this book.

I love finding new to me authors.
